This information is specifically for PhD Students assigned to me for advising.

As your PhD advisor, I believe it is the best interest of both of us that I set up some guidelines and expectations for the dissertation process and the journey toward a Doctor of Philosophy.

In general, the most important criteria to consider when deciding on a dissertation chair are the research interests of the faculty members in your program. Ideally, a graduate student should select a dissertation chair that has a scholarly, active agenda in the area that the student is researching. To provide this opportunity, I view each entering student as being assigned a temporary faculty advisor. Students should be free to change advisors if they find another faculty member who meshes best with their goals and who agrees to serve as the new advisor.

As you complete your coursework, you will need to meet with me each semester. In addition, I have minimum requirements if I am asked to become Chair of your dissertation committee. Please click here for the information.

We have dissertation guidelines set up by our Adult Education Program, and the information is included in the Dissertation Seminar, a required course in the ADED PhD program. In general, you receive this information when you complete your coursework and register for ADED 7950/ADED 8950, which is usually offered only in the SUMMER semester.
